Palettes you can actually mix

A palette generator for painters: every colour it suggests comes with a recipe from the tubes you own. Start from a mother colour, a single colour mixed a little into every other one so the whole palette hangs together. Or generate a free palette, or pick every colour yourself. Saved palettes stay in your browser with the recipe for each colour.

What is a mother colour?

Painters often add a small amount of one colour to every mix on the palette. It pulls the colours towards each other, so a painting reads as one light and one moment rather than a collection of separate colours. A warm ochre mother gives late-afternoon warmth; a blue-grey gives an overcast calm.
