From a photo to a paint palette
Upload a reference photo and the extractor pulls out its main colours: the handful of colours that cover most of the picture. Tap anywhere else on the image to sample a colour of your own. Every colour comes with the paints and ratios to mix it from your own tubes, and you can save the set as a palette.
Why a paint palette, not hex codes
Most palette extractors give you screen colours. Some of those can't be mixed in paint at all. Here every colour is solved against real pigments, so you get a recipe you can actually mix, a warning when a colour is out of reach of your paints, and the one tube that would get you there.
Tips for a good extraction
- Use a photo in even light: strong shadows and highlights become colours of their own.
- Turn on the values view to judge lights and darks before you worry about hue.
- Add a mother colour to tint every colour in the photo towards one harmony, the way a painter unifies a scene.
